Why track mileage without GPS?
Some people prefer not to use GPS tracking — perhaps for privacy reasons, perhaps because they drive in areas with poor signal, or perhaps because they just do not want another app monitoring their location.
The good news is that GPS is not the only way to track mileage. MileageCalendar offers three methods that do not require location permissions at all.
Method 1: Calendar import
If your appointments are in Google Calendar or Outlook with locations, MileageCalendar reads the addresses and calculates the driving distance between them — no GPS needed.
This is the most efficient method for appointment-based work. Your calendar already has the data; MileageCalendar just turns it into mileage records.
Method 2: Manual entry with postcode calculation
You can enter journeys manually by typing the start and end postcodes. MileageCalendar calculates the driving distance between them automatically — no GPS, no map.
This is quick for one-off journeys and for drivers who only make a few business trips a week.
Method 3: Spreadsheet import
If you have historical mileage in a spreadsheet, you can import it into MileageCalendar. The app analyses the file, helps you map columns, and creates mileage entries from the data.
This is useful for bringing in past records or for bulk entry of journeys from a specific period.
All methods produce the same record
Regardless of which method you use, every journey is stored with the same compliant record format: date, start point, destination, total miles and business purpose. HMRC does not care how you recorded the journey — only that the record is accurate and complete.
